Creativity Einstein Quote

Note from the Counselor

Hi Families!

Get ready for some fun as we focus on creativity this month! This is our 9th and final character trait focus for the year. One way to think about creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Opportunities to be creative are all around us!

Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing creativity. Here are two ideas:

  • Create in the kitchen. ‘Master Chef’ challenges inspired by the TV show. Give the kids (individually or as teams of 2) a box with mystery ingredients and a 20 min time limit. The task is to create a culinary delight! This creative idea could be done on the fly, using ingredients on hand. If family friends are over, the grown-ups get to watch (aka relax) and operate as judges scoring on creativity, taste, use of ingredients, plating, etc.
  • Create something from nothing. A classic but fun family challenge is to find a large cardboard box and unleash your creativity as you work together to create something totally new. What can the box become? Perhaps it will be a spaceship, an ice cream shop, a fairy castle, or a race car. Use any craft supplies or scraps on hand and your imagination to turn an ordinary box into a new creation.

Enjoy getting your creative juices flowing and connecting with your loved ones.

Cheers,
Katie Brase, x̌alilc Counselor

Staff Appreciation

Staff Appreciation Week Sign Up

We are so excited to celebrate the amazing Halilts staff who show up for our kids every single day! This year, we're bringing the Farmer's Market to Halilts from May 4-8th : think fresh, colorful, and full of good things, just like our incredible teachers and staff.

A full week of fun is planned, and it truly takes a village to pull it off. Every sign-up and donation goes directly toward making our staff feel seen, valued, and appreciated - and they are so worth it! Drop off & wishlist options available.

Library Volunteers

May Library Volunteers Needed

Come volunteer at the Halilts library!

Bring a book to read aloud and help students find a just right book. Any help shelving returned books is very appreciated!

Volunteers need to be approved by BISD. Sign up here to help!

Questions? Please email PTO Library Coordinator, Heather Tartar, at heathertartar@gmail.com.
Popcorn Friday

Popcorn Fridays are Back!

Do you like seeing kids joyfully smiling and the smell of freshly popped popcorn? Then this is the gig for you!

Sign-up for a time to help pop and serve popcorn at lunch recess - but don't dawdle, this is a hot ticket!

Bike to School

Bike to School Day

x̌alilc will be celebrating Bike & Walk to School Day on Friday, May 15!

Join other families in celebrating the beautiful weather and practicing alternative ways to arrive at school that promote health and help the environment. So get outside, get out of your car, and get your kids off the bus for the day!

The PTO with some help from Squeaky Wheels is organizing this event!

Join a group:
  • Who: Riders will be students and adults
  • Where: Ted Olson Preserve or Port Madison Lutheran Church
  • When: May 15 rain or shine!
  • Where: Bikes will hit the road at 7:20 to allow everyone plenty of time to arrive at school!

We are looking for a few bike-riding, volunteer-approved adults to help lead the rides from each location--watch for the sign-up to help!

Be sure to give your kiddo’s bike a safety check before the day of the ride: Check brakes, tires, and gears. Classic Cycles has used trade-in bikes and they are able to pump up tires and check helmets for right fit.

Class Placement Input Form

Class Placement Input Form

The time of year has come for us to begin next year's placement process. If you have information about your student that would be helpful for us in making classroom assignments, we would like to hear from you. Please know, this form is OPTIONAL.

Your input will be considered and shared with the new classroom teacher. There are many factors that impact placement decisions: balance of gender, balance of students with specific learning needs, and class size.

REQUESTS FOR INDIVIDUAL TEACHERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. However, input regarding your student's learning style, preferred learning environment, social context or other factors the school may not be familiar with can be helpful to the placement team.  Please include ALL information that you believe may be relevant to placement, even if the same information has been shared in previous years.

Please remember that teachers, specialists, principal, and counselor will be reviewing this form.

Input must be submitted no later than FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2026.

It’s ABC time! Register for the 2026-27 School Year

If you know your student will not attend BISD in the fall, please let us know by contacting Sheila Jakubik at sjakubik@bisd303.org with your educational plan so that we may adjust our records accordingly.

Our Annual Back to school Check-in process (ABC) is now open and is available by logging in to your Family Access account. Look in the left menu and choose: ABC 26-27 to move through the steps to complete this process ASAP.
It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete the process for each child in your household.

This data collection allows BISD to gather information regarding your students’ plans for the upcoming year. Having an accurate understanding of the number of expected students helps us determine staffing needs, class size and building capacity to better serve our students. In addition to this valuable information, it allows BISD to fulfill its annual notification requirements for public schools in Washington state.

The ABC 26-27 process must be completed for ALL students in the district whether they are brand new to the district or returning.

*NOTE: For students with more than one family, ONLY the Primary Family will have access to complete the ABC’s. Guardians of Non-Primary Families will have “read-only” access. If this is a hardship for your family, please contact the school office for guidance, or send an email to studentrecords@bisd303.org. All families have the ability to make changes to their specific demographic information at any time via Family Access>Student Info>Change Requests link (in the top right corner).

TIPS:
  • Use a desktop or laptop computer (if trying to use a mobile device, open up a browser and login to Family Access directly. Or, depending on your device you may be able to choose the “Desktop” version of the mobile app for this purpose).
  • Use the “View Full Screen” buttons when available.
  • Each step has a “Complete Step and Move to….” button. You must click that on each step to mark it as complete.
  • Optional steps: PTSO and Bainbridge Schools Foundation steps are there as informational only. Donations are appreciated, but NOT required!
  • IF you make a change request that needs to be approved by the district you can still Complete the Step and move on to the next step.
  • If you think you have completed the process, but it is not showing as complete, look in the right column menu and look for the step(s) that do not have a check mark next to them. Click the link and you’ll either need to sign and date and/or merely click the “complete step” button….then Submit.
  • The LAST step – takes 2 clicks. “Complete ABC 26-27” followed by “Submit ABC 26-27”. As soon as you “Submit” you will get a notice and email that the process has been completed.
