Happy fall, Orca Families!
Thank you to the PTO for the amazing Harvest Festival on Friday! It was so fun and festive! A big shout out to all the volunteers and an extra special shout out to our Co-Presidents, Kate and Annalisa; our Food Services staff, Stacey, Bonnie and Elaine; and our Farm to School Lead Organizer, Erica! What a great way to celebrate this season of gratitude.
This week we are focusing on the character trait of Respect. Find ways at home to name ways that your student is showing respect. At school, Respect is one of our Three Bs: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible! Students are really working hard to earn their Caught in the Act tickets. We have our school jar almost half full after just two weeks!
I hope you are able to find joy in the changing season, colorful leaves, and our crisp mornings and sunny afternoons!

Vision and Hearing Screening
|
It’s that time of year again! Student hearing and vision screening is scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2024
Vision and hearing screening for students in grades K-3 will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024. 4th grade students are not routinely screened, but we can include them by parent request.
Parents/guardians will be notified if the health screening results indicate a health care provider follow-up is recommended.
If you want your 4th grade student included OR if you want to opt out of the screening for your K-3rd grade student, please contact the health room at 206-780-3022 or email pzosa@bisd303.org.

Conferences are around the corner!
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1 both in-person and via Zoom.
NOTE: There is no school on October 31 and November 1 due to Fall Conferences.

Thank you all for joining us for the Harvest Festival on Friday! It was a fun opportunity to celebrate our school community, the harvest season, local farms and our school garden.
Thanks to all the volunteers and to the food and nutrition services staff for serving delicious harvest treats inspired by our garden.
Now that fall has arrived it's time to clean up our garden for the season. Join us for our annual fall garden clean-up THIS Saturday, October 5th from 2-4pm. We'll pull old plants and put in our cover-crop to help our soil stay healthy through the winter.

Highly Capable (HC) Referral for NEW students to BISD
|
Bainbridge Island School District offers services to students who have been identified as highly capable. Highly capable students are those who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels. Services are provided for students in grades K - 12.
If your student is NEW to our district this fall, and you are interested in having them evaluated for our Highly Capable program, please visit our Highly Capable Webpage for more information. The referral window is open from September 25th to October 6th.
Please note, the referral process for all other returning students (Grades 1-11) and Kindergarten will occur in the Spring of this school year.
New to District HC Referral Process Timeline:

CogAT Testing: October 21-November 8:
Results: Letter sent home before winter break.

We love our volunteers!
Please remember if you want to volunteer at x̌alilc, all volunteers who help in the classroom, at lunch recess, on field trips, or with other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD.
The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.
Please bring your driver's license each time you sign into any school in the district.
