FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear x̌alilc Families,

I hope you enjoyed the sunshine and warmth this weekend! I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community for the outpouring of support and generosity last week for Staff Appreciation. We all felt the love last week!

This week we jump into Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) for our third and fourth-grade students. Our younger students will be cheering them on with kind notes of encouragement and little treats throughout the week!

As we continue to learn and practice courage this month, here are some talking points to start a conversation with your student(s),

        ● Can you share or show what it means to have Courage?

        ● When you practice Courage, how does it make you feel? Why?

Warmly,

Whitney

BIKE/WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

Friday, May 24 is Bike or Walk to School Day!

Calling all biking and walking enthusiasts! Please join us on Friday, May 24th for Bike or Walk to School Day! Join other families in celebrating the beautiful weather and practicing alternative ways to arrive at school that promote health and help the environment.

Students and families are invited to gather at 7:15 AM at Port Madison Lutheran Church, or Ted Olson Preserve, to walk or bike to school with fellow x̌alilc community members. Families may also choose to walk or bike to school on their own.

We are looking for a few parent volunteers to bike to school - please visit the sign-up genius if you are able to help out!

Be sure to give your kiddo’s bike a safety check before the day of the ride: check brakes, tires, and gears. Classic Cycles has used trade-in bikes and they are able to pump up tires and check helmets for right fit.

May is Bike everywhere month--a nationally recognized celebration of bicycle transportation. Schools nationwide will participate in Bike or Walk to School Day on May 24 and x̌alilc is excited to participate! Students will be greeted and cheered upon arrival at x̌alilc where local bike group Squeaky Wheels will provide snacks and give-aways.

Thank You Volunteers for Staff Appreciation!

The week was a hit! And yes we do mean hits from the 90's. A special thanks to Theresa Yette and Sarah Mann for organizing an event that the teachers loved! Also, thanks to Melissa Korb and Brett Walker who spent all Thursday morning wheeling a coffee cart from class to class - the staff unanimously agreed it was a very sweet treat!

We could not have done it with out all your generous donations of time, food and beverages.  Thank you everyone who helped out.

ABC CHECK-IN

It's time to do the ABCs for all students returning to BISD for the 2024-25 school year!

Our Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC) process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2024-25 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information.

The ABCs must be completed* for all students attending BISD schools in 2024-25 — this includes both new and returning students.  Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete.

If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please contact the office manager at your student's school.

*Class placement/class schedules will not be released in August until the ABCs are completed. But why delay? Go ahead and take care of it today!
