FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear x̌alilc Families,

Welcome back to school! I hope your family was able to spend some special time together and feel refreshed as we head into the rest of the school year.

Thank you for making conferences so successful! Your participation and partnership with teachers and our school is what helps to make your student’s education exceptional.

Next week, we will celebrate x̌alilc Loves Reading (Read Across America) week.  Ms. Hauge has organized some fun activities for us all to celebrate our love of reading.

Warmly,

Whitney

x̌alilc (Halilts) LOVES READING

x̌alilc Loves Reading Week

In 1997, an organization known as the National Education Association (NEA) advocated for a special day to celebrate reading throughout the United States.  This popular idea took flight and the first Read Across America Day was held on March 2nd, 1998.

x̌alilc Loves Reading Week will celebrate Read Across America Day and our love for books during the week of Tuesday, March 5 - Thursday, March 7 Students are invited to participate in any or all of the following school wide theme days:

TUESDAY, MARCH 5:  Wild for Reading Day - read a book about wildlife or nature to someone at home or at school!

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6:  Make Your Mark Day - bring out your own special creativity and make a bookmark during lunch recess!

THURSDAY, MARCH 7:  Bring a Book Character to Life Day - dress up as a character or theme from a book.  Think homemade!  No weapons (or looks like weapons) or masks that cover the entire head.  If your child needs an idea, Google “book costumes,” however students have already come up with brilliant ideas during our discussions.  There are no limits to their creativity and we can’t wait to see these characters come to life!
