Class Placement

Class Placement

Are you ready to find out who your child's teacher will be?

The following information will be available on Tuesday August 25, 2026 at 3 pm.

Remember: ABC Check-in needs to be completed to have access to class placement on Skyward.
 

Skyward Family Access Link Has Changed!

As we gear up for the start of another fantastic school year, we have a quick tech update to share with you!
Over the summer, our Skyward system underwent some updates, which resulted in a change to the website address. To log in to your Skyward Family Access account, please use the new link below. Your username and password did not change.

Quick Tip: If you have the old Skyward link saved in your browser favorites or bookmarks, be sure to update it with this new one so you can easily access your student's information! You can also always find the Skyward link on the BISD website, under Popular Links. 

We are excited to welcome everyone back to school very soon. Please don't hesitate to reach out to studentrecords@bisd303.org if you have any trouble logging in.
 
Back to School Important Dates

Back to School Important Dates

August 25: Class placement will be available for families on Skyward Family Access at 3:00 pm. ABC Check-in must be completed.

August 28: Meet & Greet from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Come see the school, find your classroom and meet your teacher!

August 30: Kindergarten Popsicle Party at 2:00 pm. All kindergarten families welcome! Come meet Ms. Walton, play on the playground, and meet other families.

September 1: First Day of School for 1st -4th grade! Please note that Halilts hours are 7:50 am to 2:20 pm Monday through Friday.

September 3: Kindergarten 2 hour start & parent meetings. Students will be assigned to attend morning or afternoon. Parents will stay for important school information.

September 4: Kindergarten First Full Day of School

September 8: First Day Preschool. The youngest members of our school start this day. If you see parents parking in the bus loop - it is because they have a preschooler!

September 17: Back to School Night
  • 1st & 4th at 5:15pm
  • 2nd & 3rd at 6:30pm

September 23: Picture Day! Pictures will be taken in the morning at school. Buying school pictures is optional.

September 25: Harvest Fair from 4:30pm-6:00pm

September 28: No School - Staff Professional Development Day
 
School Supplies

School Supplies

Through the generous support of our PTO, school supplies are provided for ALL students.

Families are responsible for:
  • Backpack - big enough to easily carry 9x12 folder
  • Lunch box
  • Water bottle
  • Headphones (1st-4th grade)
Please make sure everything is labelled with your student's name.

Thank you to our PTO for providing supplies.
 
Kindergarten Information

Kindergarten Modified School Start

Welcome to x̌alilc (Halilts) Elementary! Class placements will be available through Skyward Family Access on August 25 at 3:00 p.m.

Kindergarten students' first full day of school will be on Friday, September 4, 2026.  

Please save these dates! 
  • Tuesday, September 1 OR Wednesday, September 2: There will be a 20 minute conference both parents and student attend. Parent will sign-up for a conference via Skyward when class placement goes live.
AND
  • Thursday, September 3: Both parents and students will attend a 1.5 hour session either in the morning or afternoon (Last Names A-K 8:45-10:15 or Last Names L-Z 12:15-1:45)

These days help create a smooth transition for your student into kindergarten by:
  • Building stamina for all students
  • Allowing teachers to meet students and learn about their specific needs
  • Building trust and addressing questions in a one-on-one conference
  • Learning routines to build a strong classroom community from day one
  • Incorporating OSPI’s best practices

ABC Registration

Annual Back to School Check-in (ABC)

The Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC) process has been completed for 80% of students. This annual process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2026-2027 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information. 

The ABCs must be completed for all students attending BISD schools in 2026-2027, including both new and returning students. Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete. You must complete your ABC check-in to be able to find out your child's teacher on August 25th at 3:00 pm.

If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please get in touch with Sheila Jakubik via email sjakubik@bisd303.org or by phone 206-842-4411.

NOT RETURNING? If your K-4th grade student is not returning to BISD schools this fall, please let Sheila Jakubik know via email sjakubik@bisd303.org as soon as possible.
 
Flexible Boundaries

Flexible Boundaries Reminder

Did you know that BISD utilizes flexible boundaries? This means there are many areas of the Island (unless you live solidly South, i.e. Lynwood Center or solidly North, i.e Seabold) that are considered a flexible boundary area between two (or sometimes three) of our preK-4th Grade neighborhood schools: Blakely, Ordway or x̌alilc. 

Per Policy 3130 and Procedure 3130: The establishment of attendance area boundaries for the elementary schools will be completed on an annual basis as follows:
Each year, building and district administrators will meet on a regular basis beginning in April to track enrollment by grade level and identify potential class sizes that may be imbalanced. These regularly scheduled meetings will allow building administrators to identify staffing needs as well as the potential of student shifts that need to occur. As outlined in Policy 3130, building administrators will notify impacted families prior to the end of the current school year.
When it is necessary to move a student between schools, the following criteria will be used to determine which children will be reassigned:
  •  Special student needs (i.e., special programs, adjustment problems)
  • Location of residence (for exceptions see Policy 3131, District Attendance Area Transfers).
  • Attempt to maintain all children from the same family in the same school.
  • Number of in-district involuntary transfers (Has the child changed schools due to boundary line changes?).
  • Date of enrollment.
  • Previous school attended.
  • Transportation (can the regular bus routes transport a child to and from the school?)

Free and Reduced Lunch

Free and Reduced Meals

Free and reduced-price lunches may be obtained by any student (at any time during the school year) whose family income falls within the guidelines set by the US Department of Agriculture. Families are encouraged to apply.
